HBO's acclaimed The Last of Us series is poised for a four-season run, according to an executive.
Francesca Orsi, an HBO executive, hinted at a four-season arc for the popular adaptation, clarifying that while there's no finalized plan, a four-season run is the current projection. "It's looking like this season and then two more seasons after this, and we're done," Orsi stated in an interview with Deadline.
Regarding the anticipated Season 2 premiere in April 2025, Orsi teased the introduction of compelling factions vying for survival. She highlighted their unique presentation, emphasizing distinct wardrobe and makeup choices that set them apart.
"There's certain elements in terms of the various factions that are competing for survival that reveal themselves as a really intriguing survivalist group, and I think they just have a quality to them that feels distinct in how they present it," Orsi commented. "There’s a certain way [the show] is presenting them in wardrobe and makeup that feels really different than the average person."

Those who missed Season 1 can still catch up before the Season 2 premiere in April. Unlike Season 1, which fully adapted the first game, Season 2 will expand upon The Last of Us Part 2, spanning multiple episodes. A "natural breakpoint" after seven episodes is planned for this season.
Season 2 will introduce several new characters, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel. Catherine O'Hara's role remains undisclosed.
IGN's review of The Last of Us Season 1 praised the show as "a stunning adaptation that should thrill newcomers and enrich those already familiar with Joel and Ellie's journey alike," earning a 9/10 rating.
