Gamescom 2024 saw a flurry of whispers regarding the PlayStation 5 Pro, its potential specifications, and release date. Read on for the latest insights gathered from developers and reporters at the event.
PS5 Pro Dominates Gamescom 2024 Conversations
Developers Adjust Release Plans for the PS5 Pro
Speculation surrounding the PS5 Pro intensified at Gamescom 2024. Following earlier leaks, developers openly discussed the upcoming console, with some even delaying game launches to coincide with its arrival, according to Alessio Palumbo of Wccftech.
Palumbo reported a significant detail: "A developer, who chose to remain anonymous, spontaneously mentioned receiving PS5 Pro specifications and confirmed Unreal Engine 5's superior performance on the new hardware compared to the standard PS5."
This corroborates a Multiplayer.it live stream report detailing a developer delaying a game release to align with the rumored PS5 Pro launch. Palumbo added, "This isn't the same developer as the one mentioned by Multiplayer.it. The studio I spoke with is not a major player, suggesting widespread access to PS5 Pro specs among developers."
Analyst Predicts Imminent PS5 Pro Release
Further bolstering these reports, analyst William R. Aguilar hinted on X in July that Sony would likely announce the PS5 Pro later this year. He suggested a September 2024 State of Play announcement as a possibility, emphasizing Sony's need to act swiftly to avoid impacting current PS5 sales.
This timeline mirrors the PlayStation 4 Pro's 2016 release, announced September 7th and launched November 10th. Palumbo notes that if Sony follows a similar strategy, "an official announcement seems imminent."
