The Witcher saga continues! Nearly a decade after the critically acclaimed Witcher 3 captivated gamers, a first look at The Witcher 4 has arrived, introducing Ciri as the new protagonist.
As Geralt's adopted daughter, Ciri steps into the spotlight as the Witcher's trilogy concludes. The teaser depicts Ciri intervening in a village gripped by a horrifying tradition – sacrificing a young woman to appease a monster. Ciri's rescue attempt reveals a far more sinister situation than initially apparent.
While an official release date remains elusive, considering the development timelines of Witcher 3 (3.5-4 years) and Cyberpunk 2077, a 3-4 year wait for Witcher 4 seems plausible, given the early stage of production.
Platform specifics are yet to be announced, but given the projected timeframe, a current-generation console exclusive is likely. However, no platform has been confirmed. We expect simultaneous releases on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. A Switch port, unlike Witcher 3, seems unlikely, though a potential Switch 2 release remains a possibility.
Though gameplay details are scarce, the CGI trailer hints at familiar elements: potions, Signs, and familiar phrases. A notable addition might be Ciri's chain, used both to subdue the monster and channel magic.
Voice actor Doug Cockle confirmed Geralt's involvement, albeit in a supporting role. The teaser includes Geralt's voice, fueling speculation of a mentor-like presence.
