Steve's Lava Chicken: Shortest Song to Hit UK Chart from Minecraft Movie

Author : Olivia Update:May 27,2025

If you've recently ventured into a cinema to catch A Minecraft Movie, you'll likely recall Jack Black's brief yet memorable song celebrating the "lava chicken" moment, which occurs about halfway through the film.

Black, portraying the character Steve, performs a song titled "Lava Chicken" as Jason Momoa and other characters watch a chicken being cooked by falling lava. Despite its brief duration of just 34 seconds, the song has gone viral on social media.

Remarkably, Steve's "Lava Chicken" has debuted at No. 21 on the UK's official chart, setting a record as the shortest song ever to chart. The UK’s digital entertainment and retail association, ERA, commented, "Streaming + virality are reshaping hits."

PlayJack Black is no stranger to viral video game songs. His 95-second romantic ode to Princess Peach, "Peaches," from *The Super Mario Bros. Movie*, also went viral and landed on the Billboard Hot 100. This was Black's first solo entry on the chart, having previously debuted at No. 78 with "The Pick of Destiny" in 2006 as part of Tenacious D.

Other notably short songs to chart include the 64-second "Spider Pig" from the 2007 Simpsons Movie and Liam Lynch’s 2002 punk hit "United States of Whatever," which clocks in at 86 seconds.

"Lava Chicken" isn't the only element from A Minecraft Movie to capture the internet's attention. Clips of enthusiastic cinemagoers, some even bringing live chickens to screenings, have spread like wildfire across platforms like TikTok.
