"Marvel Rivals Dev 'Open' to Nintendo Switch 2 Release"

Author : Hazel Update:May 29,2025

The highly acclaimed hero shooter Marvel Rivals has been making waves since its release on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. However, its developer, NetEase, has consistently maintained that the game wouldn’t be coming to the original Nintendo Switch due to hardware limitations that couldn’t deliver an optimal gaming experience. This left Nintendo users disappointed, unable to join the growing fanbase. But what about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2?

During a recent interview at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we had the chance to ask Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu about the possibility of the game appearing on the new console. Encouragingly, he hinted at a promising future for Switch 2 users.

According to Wu, “We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. And whenever we find that we could provide great performance for our game on Switch 2, we're open to that. The reason why we didn't launch it onto the Switch, it was the first generation of that device they cannot provide a great experience for our gameplay. So if it could achieve that goal, we're open to that.”

Just last month, Nintendo officially announced the Nintendo Switch 2. Although specifics about its capabilities remain limited, early reports suggest it will be a more powerful and feature-rich version of its predecessor. One notable addition appears to be a mouse-like controller functionality, which could enhance the experience of playing fast-paced shooters like Marvel Rivals. However, the exact implementation and impact of this feature are yet to be determined.

Currently, there’s no official release date for the Nintendo Switch 2, but a Nintendo Direct event is scheduled for April 2. Meanwhile, Marvel Rivals continues to thrive on other platforms, receiving praise for its engaging gameplay. In our 8/10 review, we noted that while the game draws inspiration from its predecessors, it stands out by carving its own niche. The upcoming additions of The Human Torch and The Thing as playable characters on February 21 are sure to excite fans further.
