Earlier this month, Alienware unveiled its latest mainstream lineup of gaming laptops for 2025, named the "Alienware Aurora". The first 16" models are now up for grabs at Dell. The Alienware Aurora 16, which should not be mistaken for the desktop model, is the more budget-friendly option, boasting an Intel Core Ultra Series 2 i9-270H CPU and a GeForce RTX 4050 GPU with an 85W TGP, priced at $1,949.99. On the higher end, the Alienware Aurora 16X comes equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU and a GeForce RTX 5070 GPU with a 115W TGP, retailing for $2,299.99. Both models are set to begin shipping in mid-June. Additionally, both the Aurora 16 and 16X offer the option to upgrade to RTX 5060 graphics, though these are currently on pre-order with no estimated shipping date, as the RTX 5060 has yet to be released.

The new Alienware Aurora laptops break away from the typical gamer aesthetics seen in other Alienware models, such as the recently launched Area-51. These laptops sport a more subdued, sleek design reminiscent of standard laptops, featuring a slim profile and minimal RGB lighting. The Aurora 16, for instance, only includes white keyboard backlighting, much like Apple MacBooks. Despite their understated exterior, these laptops are powered by robust gaming components and a sophisticated Cryo Chamber dual fan and copper heatpipe cooling system. The Aurora 16 is slightly thinner and lighter, thanks to its more efficient components, including a low-voltage Intel Core Ultra 9 CPU and an RTX 5070 GPU with an 85W TGP. Conversely, the Aurora 16X, while a bit thicker and heavier, accommodates more robust cooling to support the more powerful Intel Core Ultra 9 HX series processor and an RTX 5070 GPU with a higher 115W TGP rating.
These laptops are notably more affordable than the new Alienware Area-51, which starts at over $3,000, and they are also much easier to carry, being up to 1.6 pounds lighter and 30% thinner than a similar-sized Area-51 16" laptop. It's unlikely that prices will drop significantly soon, especially with Nvidia GPU prices potentially increasing in the near future, as reported by Tom's Hardware.
Gamers should go with the Alienware Aurora 16X model
For gamers seeking a powerful mobile desktop replacement, the Aurora 16X is the clear choice. For just an extra $300, you get a significantly superior laptop with several worthwhile upgrades. The key enhancements include:
- A better display (2560x1600 240Hz G-Sync vs 2560x1600 120Hz)
- A more powerful CPU (Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX vs Intel Core 9 270H)
- A higher TGP rating for the RTX 5070 (115W TGP vs 85W TGP)
- Double the RAM (64GB vs 32GB)
- Double the storage (2TB vs 1TB)
- Enhanced material quality (metal top and bottom vs metal top only)
- An RGB keyboard
- Thunderbolt 4.0 connectivity
