"New Alien: Earth Trailer Reveals Xenomorph Design, Nods to 1979 Ridley Scott Classic"

A new trailer for the highly anticipated TV series, Alien: Earth, has surfaced online, providing fans with their most detailed glimpse yet into the upcoming show. The trailer, initially unveiled at Disney's 2025 Annual Meeting of Shareholders, was shared on the @CineGeekNews X/Twitter account. It showcases the harrowing plight of a space ship's survivors, ravaged by a Xenomorph and set on a collision course with Earth.

The trailer introduces a new Xenomorph design while paying homage to Ridley Scott's 1979 classic. The setting inside a MU/TH/UR control room closely resembles that of the Nostromo, where Ripley uncovered the terrifying truth about her crew's situation. In the trailer, a desperate crew member pleads for help as the Xenomorph advances, while Morrow, portrayed by Babou Ceesay, coldly reports the escape of "specimens," declares the crew dead, and sets the ship's trajectory toward Earth. The trailer then shifts to show six soldiers approaching what appears to be the crashed ship, hinting at an ominous outcome.

The trailer raises numerous questions about the series: Will Morrow survive? What drives him? Are there any other survivors? Was anyone impregnated by the Xenomorph? How will the soldiers meet their fate? These questions set the stage for Alien: Earth, which follows the aftermath of a mysterious space vessel's crash on Earth. A young woman, played by Sydney Chandler, and a group of tactical soldiers make a crucial discovery that leads them to confront the planet's greatest threat.

PlayFX’s Alien series is set in 2120, positioned well after the events of Prometheus and just two years before the original Alien and the ill-fated voyage of the Nostromo. This timeline placement has led fans to speculate that Alien: Earth might explore the Nostromo's departure from Earth or reveal how the nefarious Weyland-Yutani Corporation became aware of the Xenomorphs. As a point of reference, the recently released Alien: Romulus takes place between Alien and Aliens.

In January of last year, showrunner Noah Hawley discussed his decision to diverge from the backstory established in Prometheus for Alien: Earth. Hawley expressed his preference for the "retro-futurism" of the original films. He consulted with Ridley Scott on various aspects of the Alien series, including its connections to the prequels, but chose to steer away from the bioweapon narrative in favor of the lore from the earlier movies.

Fans can look forward to Alien: Earth premiering on Hulu in the summer of 2025. Additionally, Alien: Romulus 2 is also in development, promising to further expand the Alien universe.
