Notably, the 64GB of RAM represents a significant upgrade, as these laptops typically come with 32GB at this price point.
This CPU / GPU Combo Excels in Any Game
The Alienware Area-51 is powered by the formidable Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor, which achieves a max turbo frequency of 5.4GHz and features 24 cores with 40MB of L2 cache. According to Passmark, this is the fastest laptop processor available, outperforming the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D by 7%.
Tom's Hardware reports that the RTX 5080 mobile GPU offers a 15%-20% performance boost over its predecessor, the RTX 4080 mobile GPU, and even surpasses the RTX 4090 by about 5%. Despite being nearly $1,000 less expensive than the RTX 5090, it only falls behind by about 15%, making it an excellent value. With the Alienware Area-51's QHD+ (2560x1600) display, this GPU is well-equipped to run new and upcoming games at high frame rates, especially with the support of DLSS 4.
The Area-51: New Style, More Power, Better Cooling
For 2025, the Alienware Area-51 gaming laptop introduces a magnesium alloy chassis with upgraded cooling to manage the heat from its advanced components. This includes additional fans, larger cutouts for improved airflow, more copper usage, and a new thermal interface material for better heat dissipation. Dell asserts that the laptop can maintain a higher power ceiling of up to 240W TDP without increasing noise levels.
In terms of design, the Area-51 showcases smooth contours with rounded edges and soft corners, moving away from the typical squared-off look. The hinges are mostly hidden inside, enhancing the laptop's sleek appearance. As expected from an Alienware product, it offers extensive RGB LED lighting customization. For connectivity, the laptop includes three USB Type-A 3.2 15Gbps ports (one with PowerShare), two Thunderbolt / USB Type-C ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, and a card reader. The 16" model weighs 7.5 pounds, while the 18" model is 9.6 pounds.
