In a special Memorial Day Sale by Dell, various configurations of the Alienware 16 Area-51 and Alienware 18 Area-51 are available at discounted prices for the first time. These laptops come equipped with the latest Nvidia Blackwell GPUs, including the RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5080, and RTX 5090. Orders placed now are set to ship in mid-June.

While the Alienware 16 Area-51 may not have the same imposing presence as its larger counterpart, it remains a formidable gaming machine with a focus on high performance and cooling efficiency. At 7.5 pounds and 0.85 inches thick, it still demands a 360W power brick and is best used plugged in. Its smaller footprint accommodates a 16-inch display and a standard laptop keyboard without a numpad, and lacks an ethernet port. Despite this, it matches the internal prowess of the 18-inch model, powered by an Intel Core Ultra 9 HX processor and capable of handling up to an Nvidia RTX 5090 GPU, thanks to its robust cooling system.

This Memorial Day, four models are discounted: the $2,850 model with RTX 5070 Ti, the $2,999.99 and $3,150 models both equipped with RTX 5080, and the top-tier $3,650 model with RTX 5090.

The Alienware Area-51 is not only equipped with top-tier GPUs but also a formidable CPU. The Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, boasting a max turbo frequency of 5.4GHz with 24 cores and 40MB of L2 cache, ranks among the fastest mobile processors available, rivaling the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D according to Passmark.

The RTX 5070 Ti mobile GPU, as per Notebookcheck, is a significant upgrade, performing comparably to the RTX 4080, while the RTX 5070 matches the RTX 4070. These GPUs can comfortably run any game at the native 1920x1200 resolution of the display.

Tom's Hardware reports that the RTX 5080 mobile GPU offers a 15%-20% performance boost over the RTX 4080 it replaces, and even outperforms the RTX 4090 by about 5%. It's also a better value than the pricier RTX 5090, trailing by only 15% while costing nearly $1,000 less. Given the QHD+ (2560x1600) resolution of the Alienware Area-51, the RTX 5080 should handle new and upcoming games at high frame rates, particularly with DLSS 4 support.

The Area-51: New Style, More Power, Better Cooling

The 2025 Alienware Area-51 introduces a magnesium alloy chassis with enhanced cooling designed to manage the latest high-performance components. It features additional fans, larger air vents, increased copper usage, and a new thermal interface material to efficiently dissipate heat. Dell asserts that the laptop can handle a 240W TDP without increasing noise levels.

In terms of design, the Area-51 showcases smooth contours with rounded edges and soft corners, differentiating it from typical laptop designs. The hinges are mostly internal, nearly invisible, and the laptop offers extensive RGB LED customization options. Connectivity options include three USB Type-A 3.2 15Gbps ports (one with PowerShare), two Thunderbolt / USB Type-C ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, and a card reader. The 16-inch model weighs 7.5 pounds, while the 18-inch model tips the scales at 9.6 pounds.
