Bethesda Voice Actor Shares Recovery Journey

Author : Emery Update:May 23,2025

Iconic Bethesda voice actor Wes Johnson, known for his roles in The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, Fallout 3, Starfield, and many other titles, recently shared an emotional message as he recovers from a life-threatening ordeal. Last week, Johnson was found "barely alive" in his hotel room, and a video he recorded was uploaded to a GoFundMe page, which has raised $174,653 to help cover his medical expenses and bills. In the video, Johnson revealed that he had been in a coma.

"I found out there's a lot of love in this world that I didn't know was out there and I'm grateful to each and every one of you," Johnson expressed.

Johnson was in Atlanta to host a benefit event for the National Alzheimer’s Foundation. After flying down and checking into his hotel, he did not appear at the event, raising concerns. His wife, Kim Johnson, called the hotel, and security, along with emergency medical technicians, eventually found him in a critical state, struggling to find a pulse.

"Rumors of my demise, well they weren't exaggerated. It was very close, very close. But I'm still here," Johnson said. "I'm still here because my wife decided to call the hotel where I was staying, doing announcing for the Alzheimer's Association, and had my son call security, and find out I was nearly dead. They took me to the hospital, put me in a coma. I was in there for five days before I found out that my wonderful friends Bill Glasser and Shari Elliker and Kim had put together this GoFundMe, where I found out there's a lot of love in this world that I didn't know was out there and I'm grateful to each and every one of you."

Johnson extended his gratitude to the National Alzheimer's Association for flying his family down to see him and providing them with accommodations, and to Ted Leonsis, chairman of the Washington Capitals' parent company, for donating $25,000. He also thanked his friends Bill Glasser and Shari Elliker.

Additionally, Johnson acknowledged Bethesda's support, which was shown through social media posts after news of his illness broke. "You say that I'm your friend. I am," he said. "Always will be. Love you guys." He also expressed his appreciation to his fans, both those who donated and those who showed support in other ways. "I love you all. I'm not going anywhere," Johnson affirmed.

"It's going to be a while as I work my way back but I'm coming back. I look forward to seeing and having you all hear me then. Cheers."

Johnson's career spans numerous film and television roles, but he is most recognized for his work in Bethesda's video games. His recent role was as Ron Hope in Starfield. Other notable characters he has voiced include Prince of Madness Sheogorath and Lucien Lachance in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, three Daedric Princes (Boethiah, Malacath, and Molag Bal) in The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, Fawkes and Maister Burke in Fallout 3, Hermaeus Mora and Emperor Titus Mede II in Skyrim, and Moe Cronin in Fallout 4.
