Capcom Hints at Resident Evil 9 with Fun Video Marking 10M RE4 Players

Author : Christian Update:May 16,2025

Capcom has cleverly teased Resident Evil 9 right under our noses. In celebration of reaching an impressive 10 million players, the Resident Evil 4 development team shared a celebratory video on social media on April 25. The video features Ada Wong whispering to one of gaming's most iconic villains, followed by a scene where Leon is surrounded by an infected horde wearing party hats as they casually make their way to the church.

The video then transitions to a rock song with Dr Salvador strumming his chainsaw like a guitar—yes, you read that right—and the camera pans back to reveal a fist-pumping Leon. Behind him, a rustic sign reads "Thank you for playing."

You can watch the full video below:

Attention all agents,
We've prepared a special video to express our gratitude to all of you, which we hope you'll enjoy (with sound ON)!

However, if you turn the sign on its side, the boards form the Roman numeral "IX," which is 9. While this could be a coincidence, horror game leaker Dusk Golem points out that there's no lower plank on the same sign earlier in the video, suggesting it was added intentionally. "I know what you did here," said one surprised responder, complete with a wide-eyed emoji.

Capcom has officially announced that the next mainline entry in the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil 9, will be directed by Koshi Nakanishi, who also directed Resident Evil 7. "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7]," Nakanishi said at the time. "But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Rumors suggest, though not confirmed, that the game will be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
