Should You Confront Wakasa or Otama in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Author : Ryan Update:Mar 31,2025

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, not every choice carries significant weight, but the decision to confront either Wakasa or Otama during the "The Tea Ceremony" mission will impact the rest of your campaign. Both characters provide compelling reasons to be suspicious, but there's a clear choice that simplifies the quest significantly.

Should You Confront Wakasa or Otama in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

After the tea ceremony in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, it's crucial to confront Wakasa as she is the true Golden Teppo of the Onryo. Choosing to confront her will streamline the mission and lead to a straightforward resolution. When you confront Wakasa, she will invite Naoe to her home for a private discussion. Upon entering, you'll immediately notice the kasa (straw hat) from the prologue hanging on her wall, confirming your choice. After some dialogue, Naoe can easily end the mission by taking Wakasa's Teppo off the wall and shooting her at point-blank range.

What If You Confront Otama in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

If you mistakenly confront Otama after the tea ceremony, believing her to be the Golden Teppo, you will still be able to kill Wakasa eventually. However, this error will lead to a more complex scenario. Choosing Otama forces Naoe to chase and kill her, uncovering a letter that reveals her corruption. Meanwhile, Wakasa escapes and fortifies herself in Osaka Castle with her soldiers.

To reach Wakasa, you'll need to journey to Osaka Castle, either fighting her soldiers or attempting a stealthy approach. If you've unlocked the nearby Osaka Tenshu fast travel point, you'll have a slight advantage, but you'll still encounter enemies. Even a stealth assassination on Wakasa won't suffice, leading to a necessary one-on-one battle. While the boss fight isn't overly challenging, confronting Wakasa directly from the start is far less cumbersome and results in a more satisfying cinematic kill, especially considering her role in Naoe's father's death.

Understanding the best course of action during the Tea Ceremony mission can help you navigate *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* more effectively. To prepare for the game's tougher challenges, learn how to gain XP and level up quickly, and discover strategies for acquiring more Knowledge Points to unlock additional skills for Naoe and Yasuke.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.*
