Cyberpunk 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 Port Updates
Featuring Multiple Cities
During the Digital Dragons 2025 event on May 20, R. Talsorian Games founder and game designer Mike Pondsmith shared insights into the development of Cyberpunk 2077's sequel, Project Orion. Although Pondsmith's involvement is less hands-on compared to the original game, he remains closely connected, reviewing scripts and engaging with the development team. He expressed his enthusiasm about the new city, stating, "I remember looking at it and going, ‘I understand the feel that you’re going for, and this really does work, it doesn’t feel like Blade Runner, it feels more like Chicago gone wrong’. And I said, ‘yeah, I can see this working’."
CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has also been actively recruiting for Cyberpunk 2, with a recent job listing for a Lead Encounter Designer. This role is crucial for creating memorable gameplay experiences that will captivate players. The job description highlights the innovative approach to game design, mentioning the development of "the most realistic and reactive crowd system in any game to date." This indicates that Cyberpunk 2 aims to push the boundaries of what's possible in gaming.
While details about Project Orion remain scarce, the involvement of Pondsmith and CDPR's search for top talent suggest that the sequel will expand on the rich world-building and storytelling that made Cyberpunk 2077 a standout title.
New Footage for Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 Port
In related news, CDPR has released new footage showcasing the optimization of Cyberpunk 2077 for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. The studio has uploaded around 37 minutes of B-roll videos on their website, demonstrating how they've adapted the game for Nintendo's new handheld console.
Despite some initial performance issues reported during showcase events in New York and Paris, including frame drops noted by Business Insider, CDPR remains optimistic. Engineer Tim Green shared with Game File on April 25 that the team is pleased with the port's progress. He noted, "We haven’t had to fight with fitting into memory, and the speed of the data storage has helped alleviate some of those early streaming problems. This has allowed us to focus our attention on improving other things, and we’re very happy with the result."
Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, which includes the full base game, all updates since launch, and the acclaimed Phantom Liberty expansion, is scheduled to launch on Switch 2 on June 5, 2025. Stay tuned for more updates and detailed information on this exciting release.
