Dragon Age: The Veilguard Surprise Free Weapon DLC Released After Months

Author : Ellie Update:Apr 16,2025

BioWare, having largely shifted its focus from Dragon Age: The Veilguard, pleasantly surprised fans by quietly releasing a small DLC weapons pack. The RPG's Steam page was recently updated to showcase the Rook's Weapons Appearance Offer, a free add-on that has caught the attention of the Dragon Age community. This move is particularly noteworthy as EA had previously indicated that Dragon Age: The Veilguard would not see significant future support. The announcement of this new content, following the fifth patch in January which promised to focus solely on fixing game-breaking bugs, feels like an unexpected bonus—even if the content itself is modest.

Interestingly, the Rook’s Weapons Appearances bundle is exclusively available to current owners of the game and those who purchase it on PC before April 8, 2025. While there’s no detailed description of the bundle’s contents, players have deduced that it includes a set of Watchful skins, accessible in the Rook’s in-game room. It remains uncertain whether this offer will extend to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S versions of the game.

Community reactions have been mixed but generally positive. One Steam review noted, “Even if these appearances aren't the most, uh, beautiful things ever, they do give spooky eldritch horror vibes!” Meanwhile, a Redditor commented, "It's cosmetic DLC, but it's essentially free DLC for a game that's practically no longer getting newer content. I'll live with that."

Dragon Age: The Veilguard received positive reviews upon its October launch, but according to EA, it didn’t connect with a wide enough audience. Key team members announced their departure from BioWare in late January, with many staff members either being laid off or reassigned within the company. At that time, EA informed IGN that BioWare was redirecting its efforts to focus entirely on the next Mass Effect.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard was included in the PlayStation Plus March 2025 titles, just four months after its release. No further plans for its future have been disclosed.
