Dragon Quest Monsters Arrives on Multiple Platforms Sept. 11th

Author : Simon Update:Feb 02,2025

TouchArcade Rating: Last year's Switch release of Square Enix's monster-collecting RPG, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, was a delightful experience despite some technical hiccups. Its charm and addictive gameplay surpassed other Dragon Quest spin-offs on the platform, rivaling the excellent Dragon Quest Builders 2. While a PC port was anticipated, a mobile release came as a surprise. Today, Square Enix announced the Switch exclusive title will launch on iOS, Android, and Steam on September 11th, priced at $29.99 (mobile) and $39.99 (Steam), bundled with all previous DLC, including the Digital Deluxe Edition content. Watch the trailer below:

Comparison images showcasing the game's visuals across mobile, Switch, and Steam platforms are available on the official Japanese website. Here's one example:

Importantly, the online real-time battle mode from the Switch version will be absent in the Steam and mobile releases.

The Nintendo Switch version is currently priced at $59.99 (standard) and $84.99 (Digital Deluxe). Given my enjoyment of the Switch version, I eagerly anticipate reviewing the mobile (iPhone, iPad) and Steam Deck versions upon their September 11th launch. This swift mobile port following the initial console release is a welcome change from the typical delays seen in the Dragon Quest series (e.g., Dragon Quest Builders). Pre-register on the App Store for iOS and Google Play for Android.

Have you played Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince on Switch? Will you be picking it up on mobile or Steam?
