RuneScape: Dragonwilds has taken the gaming community by storm with its unexpected early access launch, coming just weeks after its initial teaser. Dive in to discover more about this thrilling early access phase and what it holds for players.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds Early Access Livestream
Early Access Available Now!
RuneScape: Dragonwilds caught everyone off guard with its early access announcement. On April 16, during a livestream, Dragonwilds developer Jagex revealed that the game is now accessible for early access on Steam, a mere few weeks after the debut of its first trailer.
The gaming community was taken aback, as Dragonwilds had only been listed for wishlisting on Steam on April 1 and showcased its first official gameplay teaser on April 2. Initially announced in 2022, the game saw alpha testing signups open in late 2024 for a "new survival game set in the RuneScape universe." The game's official unveiling as RuneScape: Dragonwilds came on March 31, 2025.
Estimated Official Release Date in Early 2026
Dragonwilds is slated for an official release in early 2026, according to developers. Jagex is committed to ensuring a polished, engaging experience that players will want to return to time and again. "We want to spend the time to get everything right to make sure that our players get a complete, satisfying experience that you’ll want to revisit with friends again and again," they stated.
Jesse America, Jagex's Executive Producer, highlighted that Dragonwilds offers a fresh take on the RuneScape universe, tailored for fans of the franchise. He emphasized that early access marks the beginning of their development journey. "Throughout Early Access, we’ll be updating the game regularly with new content and features, while listening closely to the community to deliver an iconic open world survival crafting game that is loved equally by our biggest RuneScape fans and new players alike," he explained.
Early Access Roadmap Revealed
Jagex has shared the early access roadmap for Dragonwilds, outlining the exciting updates players can look forward to. A highlight is the introduction of a new region, Fellhollow, a mystical land teetering between life and death. Governed by the soul-eater dragon Imaru, this region is influenced by the wild anima of Ashenfall and the cursed energy of the Underworld. Players will explore this realm alongside the iconic RuneScape character, Death, encountering new quests, lore, gear, and music, as well as honing new skills in magic, ranged combat, and farming.
Additionally, players will face off against new Lesser Dragons, equip new dragon slayer gear, and experience new game modes including a hardcore mode and a creative mode. While specific release dates for these updates remain under wraps, Jagex assures continuous enhancements throughout the early access period.
Early Access Rewards
Purchasing Dragonwilds during its early access phase comes with exclusive in-game rewards for "Early Adopters," as listed on the game’s Steam page:
- Pioneer’s Scarf
- Pioneer’s Tapestry
- Pioneer’s Cape
- 2 pieces of music from the game
RuneScape: Dragonwilds is now available for early access on PC at $29.99. Jagex has confirmed that the price will increase upon the game's full release. Throughout the early access period, all updates will be free, though future post-launch content may be offered as paid DLC.
