A Daily Grind: No-Hit Messmer Battles

Instead of passively awaiting the release of the upcoming co-op title, Elden Ring: Nightreign, chickensandwich420 devised a demanding self-challenge: defeating Messmer the Impaler daily on NG+7, using a different weapon each time and achieving a flawless no-hit victory. This undertaking began on December 16th, 2024. Initially considering a broader range of FromSoftware bosses, the player's university studies influenced the decision to focus on a single, intensely difficult opponent.

Messmer, the second antagonist in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, is infamous for his brutal difficulty. Many players report requiring 30 to over 150 attempts to defeat him, even with optimal equipment. Chickensandwich420's commitment is truly remarkable.

However, the challenge has a deadline: June 2025. If Nightreign doesn't release by then, the player will shift their focus to other games. This sets a limit of approximately 160 Messmer battles. At the time of writing, the player is on day 23.

Elden Ring: Nightreign, announced at The Game Awards 2024, is a standalone, three-player co-op adventure within the Elden Ring universe. While a 2025 release is anticipated, FromSoftware's track record suggests potential delays. The success of chickensandwich420's ambitious undertaking hinges on Nightreign's timely arrival.
