WoW's Feast of Winter Veil: A Lore-Filled Holiday Celebration
The annual World of Warcraft Feast of Winter Veil event, mirroring real-world Christmas celebrations, returns with fresh rewards and seasonal items. A newly released lore video, a collaboration with PlatinumWoW, delves into the holiday's rich history within Azeroth.
This in-game event, akin to Christmas, features unique rewards and activities, regularly introducing new collectibles obtained through drops, gold, or other gameplay.
The new video, narrated by PlatinumWoW, explores the holiday's origins, encompassing the Dwarven legend of Greatfather Winter—a Titan-forged giant who brings the snow—and the Tauren's traditions of spiritual reflection, renewal, and gratitude to the Earthmother. The video also highlights the rise of Smokeywood Pastures, a Goblin enterprise that has commercialized Winter Veil, echoing real-world Christmas practices.
A History of Winter Veil in WoW
No exploration of Winter Veil's lore is complete without mentioning Metzen the Reindeer. Named after former Warcraft creative director Chris Metzen, this unfortunate reindeer boasts a history of kidnappings: pirates and Dark Iron Dwarves in Classic WoW, and the Grinch in the modern game. The video concludes with a humorous nod to Metzen, with Metzen the Reindeer offering thanks in Thrall's voice (Metzen's famous voice acting role).
This isn't PlatinumWoW's first collaboration with Blizzard. Previous projects include lore videos on Nerubians, Vrykul, and the Scourge for Wrath of the Lich King Classic, World Trees and Blackrock Depths for modern WoW, and content for events like Season of Discovery and Plunderstorm. Blizzard's recent collaborations also feature Taliesin & Evitel's returning player guides for Dragonflight, and Hurricane's cinematic trailers for World of Warcraft Classic.
Players can still partake in the Feast of Winter Veil until January 5, 2024. This year's highlights include the tamable Dreaming Festive Reindeer for Hunters, new holiday transmogs, and the Grunch pet for all players. Don't forget to check under the tree in Orgrimmar or Stormwind for a special Winter Veil gift, similar to last year's Junior Timekeeper's Racing Belt toy.
