Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3: PS5 Launch Confirmed, Multi-Platform Release Planned
The highly anticipated final installment of the FF7 Remake trilogy will debut on the PlayStation 5, according to producers Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi. This confirmation, shared during a January 23, 2025 interview with 4Gamer, addresses fan concerns stemming from the staggered releases of previous installments.
PS5 Launch Assured
Kitase explicitly stated, "No, you can rest assured about the next one (FF7 Remake Part 3)," laying to rest any speculation about a different initial launch platform. While the PS5 is nearing the midpoint of its lifecycle, the potential impact of a future PS6 remains unclear.
Release Date Remains Under Wraps
Square Enix remains tight-lipped regarding the release date. However, Hamaguchi offered a positive development update in a January 23, 2025 Famitsu interview, stating that progress is "going very well," and that a key milestone build was achieved by the end of 2024. Kitase also expressed satisfaction with the completed storyline, suggesting a potential launch within a reasonable timeframe.
Timed Exclusivity Expected
A March 6, 2024 Washington Post report indicated PlayStation secured timed exclusivity for the entire FF7 Remake trilogy. Following the precedent set by previous games (one year for FF7 Remake on PS4, six months for FF7 Remake Intergrade on PS5, and a similar period for FF7 Rebirth), Part 3 is likely to enjoy a PS5 exclusive window before expanding to other platforms.
Square Enix's Multi-Platform Shift
Despite the positive reception of the FF7 Remake series, Square Enix's March 31, 2024 financial report revealed declining sales in its HD titles. In response, the company announced a shift towards a more aggressive multi-platform strategy encompassing Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. This suggests that, while initially PS5 exclusive, FF7 Remake Part 3 will eventually see releases on other consoles and PC.
