Formovie Episode One Hardware Review: Projection Heaven?

Author : Max Update:May 20,2025

At Droid Gamers, we receive a wide array of tech, but a projector is a novel addition. Given the potential to stream mobile games on a larger screen, the Formovie Episode One projector caught our attention as a worthy piece of technology to explore.

Designed for those watching their budget, the Episode One offers an affordable entry into the world of projectors. While it has its limitations, it largely meets its goal of providing a cost-effective solution. Out of the box, you'll find the projector, a remote (batteries not included), a power cable, and a manual. Though it lacks the substantial feel of more premium models, its lighter weight of just three pounds enhances its portability, making it easy to take on the go.

One potential drawback is the limited connectivity options, with only one USB-A port, one HDMI port, and a single audio jack. However, this is in line with its price point and should suffice for most users' needs.

In terms of performance, the Episode One holds up well for its cost. With 150 ISO lumens, it's not the brightest or most powerful laser-based projector available. It struggled in direct sunlight during our tests but performed admirably in darker settings, as expected.

To achieve the best image quality, we found that the projector needed to be at least 10 feet away from the screen. The sound output from the built-in speaker was acceptable but somewhat tinny, suggesting that pairing it with an external speaker would enhance the audio experience.

The user interface of the Episode One is user-friendly, making setup and operation straightforward. Its simple, budget-focused design actually makes it more accessible than some pricier, more complicated projectors we've encountered.

In conclusion, the Formovie Episode One is an excellent starting point for anyone venturing into the world of projectors. It may not excel in any single aspect, but it offers a reliable all-around performance that should satisfy most casual users.

*Purchasing an Episode One projector comes with a bonus: a Netflix gift card valued at $15/€15, available only until May 27th. [ttpp]Click here to check it out.*
