The iconic Master Chief, the face of the Halo franchise (even if hidden behind a helmet), is a highly sought-after skin in Fortnite. His return to the in-game shop after a two-year hiatus was met with much fanfare, but a small detail quickly soured the celebration.
Initially, an exclusive Matte Black style for the Master Chief skin was offered only to players using Xbox Series S|X consoles. For a considerable period, Epic Games advertised this style as permanently obtainable. The abrupt announcement of its removal, therefore, caused significant backlash.
Some disgruntled fans even believed this action might be legally problematic and began discussions about a potential class-action lawsuit. However, Epic Games swiftly reversed course within 24 hours. The Matte Black style is now available to all Master Chief skin owners, provided they play a single game on an Xbox Series S|X.
This reversal appears to be the most prudent decision. Given the holiday season and many players celebrating Christmas, such a controversial move could have significantly dampened the festive spirit.
