Hello, fellow gamers! Welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 29th, 2024. Today's roundup is packed with new releases, which will be the main focus, as is typical on Thursdays. We'll also explore some noteworthy sales. Unfortunately, Nintendo Directs aren't a daily occurrence! Let's dive into the games!
Featured New Releases
Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club ($49.99)
The Famicom Detective Club returns after a long hiatus! This latest installment stays true to the originals, both in its strengths and weaknesses. A fresh mystery awaits, presented in a style reminiscent of the recent Switch remakes. Can you crack the case of the serial killer? My review is coming soon!
Gundam Breaker 4 ($59.99)
Mikhail's in-depth review covers everything you need to know about Gundam Breaker 4's gameplay and Switch performance. In short: build and battle Gunplas! While performance naturally lags behind other platforms, it's still a satisfying experience. Read Mikhail's excellent review for a complete breakdown.
Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn ($19.99)
Tengo Project continues its impressive streak of remakes. Following successful re-imaginings of 16-bit classics, they now tackle an 8-bit title. Expect a more significant departure from the source material compared to their previous work. If you're craving classic-style action-platforming, this is worth a look. My review will be up early next week.
Valfaris: Mecha Therion ($19.99)
A Valfaris sequel, but with a twist! This is a 2.5D side-scrolling shooter, a departure from the original's gameplay. While the genre shift may surprise some, it offers a solid and enjoyable experience. Another game I'll be reviewing shortly!
Nour: Play With Your Food ($9.99)
I'll admit, I'm not entirely sure what this game entails. The food imagery is certainly appealing. Is it about taking photos, uncovering secrets, or something else entirely? Perhaps Mikhail will investigate further – it seems right up his alley.
Monster Jam Showdown ($49.99)
If you're a fan of monster trucks, this game might be for you. It features local and online multiplayer, various game modes, and... well, monster trucks. Reception on other platforms has been mixed, but monster truck enthusiasts have limited options.
WitchSpring R ($39.99)
I believe this is a remake of the original WitchSpring, a mobile title often compared to the Atelier series. At this price point, however, it's approaching the cost of a true Atelier game, which makes me hesitate. Still, it looks like the best WitchSpring entry yet.
Depths of Sanity ($19.99)
An underwater exploration game with a fantastical horror twist. Investigate the disappearance of your crew in a vast and perilous underwater world. Combat is involved. Well-received on other platforms, it should find a dedicated audience on Switch.
Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire ($19.99)
A young vampire rebels against his father by embracing veganism. This leads to farming and action as he defends his lifestyle. While I'm personally a bit fatigued by this genre, it might appeal to those with more enthusiasm for farming simulators.
Marble Abduction! Patti Hattu ($11.79)
A marble roller game with seventy stages and eighty marbles to collect. Features secret collectibles and challenges. If you enjoy high-speed marble rolling, this one delivers.
Leo: The Firefighter Cat ($24.99)
A firefighting game aimed at a younger audience. Twenty missions and kid-friendly aesthetics set it apart from more realistic firefighting titles.
Gori: Cuddly Carnage ($21.99)
A grotesque action game starring a hoverboarding cat. While the core gameplay is reportedly decent, the Switch version suffers from noticeable technical issues, affecting the overall experience.
Arcade Archives Finalizer Super Transformation ($7.99)
A 1985 Konami vertical shooter featuring a transforming robot protagonist. A charming, retro shooter for fans of the genre.
EGGCONSOLE Xanadu Scenario II PC-8801mkIISR ($6.49)
An early expansion pack, offering a new underworld to explore in the original Xanadu. Features music by the legendary Yuzo Koshiro.
The Backrooms: Survival ($10.99)
A blend of horror, survival, and roguelite elements. Supports up to ten online players. The solo experience is more niche due to its repetitive nature.
Can of Wormholes ($19.99)
A clever puzzle game where you're a sentient tin can dealing with worms. One hundred handcrafted puzzles keep things fresh.
Ninja I & II ($9.99)
Two NES-style microgames featuring ninja action. Features local multiplayer.
Dice Make 10! ($3.99)
A simple yet engaging dice puzzle game with two modes. The goal is to create rows or columns adding up to ten or multiples of ten.
