The long-awaited GTA 6 mapping project has surged into high gear following the release of Trailer 2, with Garza, a key figure in the project, telling IGN: "It really changes everything for us for the rest of the year." The GTA 6 Mapping Discord, now nearing 400 members from its current 370, is abuzz with activity as enthusiasts dive into the new trailer to extract every possible detail.
"It's an information overload—it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year," Garza, who manages the Discord server, emphasized to IGN. "We have so much new content to work on and we're really just getting started."
The GTA 6 Mapping Discord was established in the wake of the massive September 2022 leaks, which some fans speculate were cheekily referenced by Rockstar at the start of Trailer 2. Until the latest trailer, the project relied on those leaks and the content from December 2023's Trailer 1. However, the latest version of the GTA 6 map, released by project lead DuPz0r at the end of March, is now obsolete due to the wealth of new information provided by Trailer 2.

In addition to confirming plot details and characters, and releasing 70 new GTA 6 screenshots, Rockstar has unveiled more about the explorable areas within the state of Leonida, GTA 6's rendition of Florida. Confirmed locations include Vice City (GTA 6's take on Miami), the tropical Leonida Keys archipelago, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and the national landmark Mount Kalaga, situated near the state's northern border.
The dedicated volunteers are meticulously analyzing the trailer to pinpoint the exact locations of everything shown, aiming to align these fictional spaces with their real-world inspirations to refine GTA 6's map further. Once completed, DuPz0r plans to release an updated map, which fans eagerly anticipate will provide the most detailed preview of GTA 6 ahead of its May 2026 release.
Should Rockstar release additional GTA 6 assets, such as gameplay footage, before the game's launch, the volunteers will continue their efforts. Only upon the game's release will they be able to compare their fan-made map with the actual game to assess its accuracy.

However, a cloud hangs over the GTA 6 mapping project: the potential for intervention by Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two. In March, a modder who had created a playable version of the GTA 6 map within GTA 5 was forced to stop after receiving a takedown notice from Take-Two. This mod was based on the GTA 6 mapping project.
Last year, when asked about his concerns over possible legal action from Take-Two, Garza expressed "some mild concern." He noted, "This project has been going on for quite some time with no direct disruption to our community. However, I always keep it into consideration if they intend on communicating with us in the future for any reason. We do not explicitly showcase leaked material in the map, so I do not believe they would take that down in particular. I believe they are aware that this project gathers popularity and interest in the game, since everyone wants to see how the world may look like. This can be one of the reasons why they haven’t done anything, since it’s not too negative. If I were ever in the situation of receiving a cease and desist though, then I would respectfully cease and desist. As we get closer to a precise map, it may be possible to receive that notice in the future."
