GTA 6 Trailer 2 Release Date: Take-Two CEO Prefers Marketing Near Launch

Author : Carter Update:Apr 15,2025

The wait for Grand Theft Auto 6 Trailer 2 might be longer than fans hoped, as recent comments from Strauss Zelnick, the boss of Rockstar's parent company Take-Two, suggest a preference for releasing marketing materials closer to the game's actual launch window. Rockstar released GTA 6 Trailer 1 to record-breaking viewership back in December 2023, but since then, no new assets have been shared. This 15-month gap has spurred a wave of wild conspiracy theories among fans eager for any hint about when GTA 6 Trailer 2 might drop.

These theories have ranged from counting the holes in Lucia's cell door net to analyzing bullet holes in the car from Trailer 1 and even scrutinizing registration plates. One particularly notable theory involves the ongoing "moon watch," which astonishingly predicted the announcement date for GTA 6 Trailer 1 but was debunked as a hint at the release date for Trailer 2.

So, when can fans expect to see GTA 6 Trailer 2? According to Zelnick’s interview with Bloomberg, the answer may hinge on the game's proximity to its release date. Zelnick emphasized the importance of maintaining anticipation and excitement, noting, "The anticipation for that title may be the greatest anticipation I've ever seen for an entertainment property... We want to maintain the anticipation and the excitement."

He further explained Take-Two's strategy: "We do have competitors who will describe their release schedule for years in advance. And we found that the better thing to do is to provide marketing materials relatively close to the release window in order to create that excitement on the one hand and balance the excitement with unmet anticipation."

Former Rockstar animator Mike York, who contributed to Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, echoed these sentiments on his YouTube channel. He suggested that Rockstar is intentionally fueling speculation and conspiracy theories to keep the community engaged without revealing any concrete information. York noted, "They're reaching and pulling and trying to come up with these really cool theories to decipher when the next trailer will be... The more they're silent the better it is, because the more people will be antsy and want to talk about it and have this feeling of not knowing what's going to happen."

York believes this tactic not only builds hype but also brings the fan community together. He remarked, "This brings the fans together. This is a really cool way to get fans to talk about your game when you’re not releasing anything yet, in-between the times. All these theories are great. They only create hype, they create talk, they create mystery behind the games."

Based on Zelnick’s comments, fans might not see GTA 6 Trailer 2 until closer to the game's anticipated release in fall 2025, provided there are no delays. In the meantime, fans can delve into IGN’s coverage of various topics related to GTA 6, including an ex-Rockstar dev’s thoughts on potential delays, Zelnick’s response to concerns about the future of GTA Online post-GTA 6 release, and expert analysis on whether the PS5 Pro can run GTA 6 at 60 frames per second.
