With the release of the *Grand Theft Auto VI* Trailer 2 and a major update to its official website, all attention has turned to the game’s confirmed launch platforms in light of its new release date—set for May 26, 2026. At the end of the trailer, the iconic PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S logos appear on screen, officially confirming that GTA 6 will launch exclusively on these consoles.
Notably, the trailer was captured using a PS5, with an on-screen mention specifically highlighting the platform, ruling out any possibility of it being powered by the upcoming PS5 Pro hardware. This aligns with Rockstar Games’ history of prioritizing current-gen console releases before expanding to other platforms post-launch.
This raises the inevitable question among fans: What about a PC version? Or even a potential Nintendo Switch 2 release? While some had speculated that the delay to May 2026 might lead Rockstar and parent company Take-Two to reconsider their platform strategy, the absence of PC from the trailer suggests otherwise.
Rockstar has historically launched its major titles on console first, often bringing them to PC months or even years later. In today’s gaming landscape, however, where PC plays a vital role in a title’s commercial success, this approach feels increasingly outdated. Could launching *GTA 6* solely on console at launch be a missed opportunity?
IGN posed this very question to Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, during a February 2024 interview. While he stopped short of announcing a simultaneous PC release, Zelnick hinted that a PC version would eventually arrive:
“With regard to others in our lineup, we don't always go across all platforms simultaneously. Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms.”
Fans have long noted Rockstar’s tendency to delay PC releases of its major titles and its complex relationship with the modding community. Still, many hoped that *GTA 6*, as one of the most anticipated games of the decade, could mark a shift in the studio’s approach.
While the exact timing of a potential PC release remains unclear, historical precedent suggests it may not arrive until well after the console launch—possibly as late as late 2026 or early 2027. Some industry insiders believe skipping PC at launch could cost Rockstar and Take-Two a significant portion of potential sales, especially considering that Zelnick himself acknowledged PC versions of multiplatform titles can account for up to 40% or more of total sales.
Back in December 2023, a former Rockstar developer attempted to explain why *GTA 6* would likely launch on console first, urging PC gamers to give the studio the benefit of the doubt regarding its platform rollout plans.

Zelnick also reiterated his belief in the growing importance of PC gaming:
“We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue,” he said. “Of course, there will be a new console generation.”
As for the Nintendo Switch 2, there was no logo present in the trailer, which comes as little surprise. While details on the Switch 2’s capabilities remain under wraps, its ability to run *Cyberpunk 2077* from CD Projekt Red gives some hope that *GTA 6*—which is still listed as coming to the less powerful Xbox Series S—could find its way to Nintendo’s next system in the future.
