In Hyper Light Breaker, choosing the right weapon is crucial to crafting an effective build. While everyone starts with basic loadouts, the game offers a dynamic opportunity to discover and equip weapons that align with your preferred playstyle as you progress.
Hyper Light Breaker blends elements of roguelikes and extraction games, making the acquisition of new weapons unique. Here’s everything you need to know about finding new armaments in this exciting game.
Where to Get New Weapons in Hyper Light Breaker
The primary method to acquire new gear is by exploring Overgrowths. During your runs, you'll naturally come across new items, but if you're specifically hunting for weapons, look for the sword or pistol icons on the map. These icons mark the locations of Blades and Rails, respectively.
Blades are melee weapons, each featuring unique movesets and special abilities, while Rails are ranged weapons with distinct functions that set them apart from one another. Both types of weapons can be found in various rarities, with gold being the rarest and most coveted. As with many loot-based games, the higher the rarity, the better the stats.
When you find a weapon in the Overgrowth, you can send it directly to your personal stash by selecting the Cache button rather than Equip. Later, you can customize your loadout for the next run by equipping these cached weapons before you set out.
How to Get New Starting Weapons
In addition to acquiring new Breakers, you can purchase new starting gear from merchants at the Cursed Outpost. Initially, only the Blades merchant is available. To unlock the Rails merchant, you'll need to gather sufficient materials to repair their shop.
Merchants offer a limited selection of items for sale, but their stock refreshes over time. If you don't find anything appealing at first, check back later to see what new items they have in stock.
How to Upgrade Weapons
To enhance your weapons, you can upgrade them at the merchants in the Outpost. First, you'll need to unlock the Upgrade feature by increasing your affinity with the merchants. This is achieved by collecting Golden Rations, a scarce resource you can find by exploring the world or resetting cycles. Use these Golden Rations judiciously, as they are hard to come by.
Keep in mind that if you die, the durability of your equipped gear decreases by one pip, shown by the bar under their icons. Repeated deaths will eventually cause your gear to break, so manage your equipment wisely.
