The announcement of Neil Druckmann's latest game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, has stirred a wide range of emotions among fans. Only recently have we been given the first details about its setting, shared by Druckmann himself on the Creator to Creator show.
The game unfolds in an alternate future that diverges from our own reality starting in the late '80s. At the heart of Intergalactic's narrative is the emergence of a new, dominant religion. Naughty Dog has meticulously crafted this religion's lore over several years, exploring its evolution from the emergence of its first prophet to its subsequent transformations and distortions.
This religion originates and spreads across a single planet, which eventually becomes isolated from the rest of the galaxy. The protagonist of the game crash-lands on this very planet, finding herself in a desolate environment where she is completely alone. Survival in this isolated setting forms one of the central themes of the project. Druckmann highlighted that, unlike previous Naughty Dog titles which often included a companion for the protagonist, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet challenges players to navigate and survive this alien world on their own if they hope to escape the planet.
Despite being in development for four years, there is still no indication of a potential release date for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Fans will need to stay tuned for future announcements as they eagerly await more details on this intriguing new title from Naughty Dog.
