James Gunn has officially announced that a new Wonder Woman film is in development, confirming that the script is currently being written.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly ahead of the Superman premiere, DC Studios co-head Gunn clarified that this Wonder Woman project is a separate endeavor from the previously announced Paradise Lost series on HBO Max.
"We're currently developing Wonder Woman," Gunn stated. "The script is in progress as we speak."

Outside of comics, Wonder Woman's recent adaptations have faced challenges. The live-action series starring Gal Gadot lost momentum following the polarizing response to Wonder Woman 1984. The character has never headlined her own animated series, and her planned debut solo video game, announced back in 2021, was ultimately canceled.
As IGN's Carlos Morales recently noted, "During the peak rivalry between the MCU and DCEU in the late 2010s, the original Wonder Woman stood out as one of DC's clearest triumphs. The 2017 movie earned widespread critical praise and grossed over $800 million worldwide. Following the divisive receptions of Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad, Patty Jenkins' interpretation of Diana resonated with audiences in a way recent DC films had not. ... However, the 2020 sequel Wonder Woman 1984 proved disappointing, receiving mixed reviews and failing to recover its production budget through theatrical release."
The sequel debuted simultaneously on HBO Max and in theaters, as many moviegoers remained cautious about public venues during the pandemic.
Plans for a third film were initially moving forward but eventually stalled, with no updates on another Wonder Woman feature until now. Naturally, with a new movie confirmed, speculation about who will portray Diana Prince is sure to resurface.
Superman arrives in theaters on July 11, marking the ambitious start of Gunn's redesigned DCU. It precedes Peacemaker Season 2, which launches on HBO Max on August 21, 2025. Supergirl follows on June 26, 2026, though a release date for the Lanterns series remains unannounced.
Additional confirmed DCU projects include Clayface, scheduled for September 11, 2026. However, The Authority appears to be encountering difficulties. Gunn has acknowledged that Waller, a Peacemaker spinoff, "has experienced some delays." On a brighter note, Booster Gold is "progressing steadily," while Paradise Lost continues to advance, albeit at a measured pace.
