Keanu Reeves has shared an exciting update about the long-awaited sequel to the 2005 cult classic, "Constantine." The actor, who portrayed the occult detective and exorcist John Constantine in the original film, confirmed that they are now ready to write a script for "Constantine 2." This news comes after over a decade of efforts to bring the sequel to life, with a recent pitch meeting at DC Studios yielding a positive response.
"We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘Okay,'" Reeves revealed to Inverse. "So, we're going to try and write a script." While this is a significant step forward, it's important to note that the project is not yet confirmed in the rebooted DC Universe (DCU) by co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran. The film's future still hangs in the balance.
Reeves also teased that should "Constantine 2" come to fruition, it will be set in the same universe as the original film. He humorously added, "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more." This update follows comments from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who mentioned in September that a script for "Constantine 2" was already in his inbox, though he was hesitant to read it due to his high hopes for its quality.
"You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough," di Bonaventura told ComicBook. "I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane." This cautious optimism reflects the high stakes and anticipation surrounding the potential sequel.
