Tidepool Games has just launched a thrilling new game for Android enthusiasts, dubbed MageTrain. If you're familiar with Nimble Quest, you'll find MageTrain reminiscent of it, as it draws heavy inspiration from that classic. This fast-paced, pixel art game blends elements of Snake, auto-battlers, and roguelikes into a unique gaming experience.
What's MageTrain Like?
In MageTrain, you command a line of heroes that trail behind you, much like a snake. Each hero autonomously attacks as you navigate through an arena. Your role is to strategize the positioning of your heroes, deciding who leads and who supports, as their abilities vary based on their placement in the train. At launch, you have access to nine heroes, including one who uniquely throws birds, each bringing different skills to the table.
You'll journey through eight distinct dungeons, battling 28 different enemy types and unlocking 30 skills to enhance your team. Along the way, you'll collect gold and power-ups to boost your performance. Thanks to its roguelike nature, every run is unique, with branching paths and upgrade choices that challenge you to survive as long as possible. Similar to games like Slay the Spire or FTL, there are no fixed levels, and you can't save your progress; one mistake and you're back to the start.
It Isn't Slow-Paced
What keeps MageTrain engaging is the continual improvement you experience with each run, even if you don't make it to the end. You'll learn when to play defensively, when to launch a full offensive, and when to simply hold on for another 30 seconds.
MageTrain is now available on Android and is free to play. Head over to the Google Play Store and give it a try. And before you go, don't miss our upcoming coverage on the new MLB Baseball Strategy Game, OOTP Baseball 26 Go!
