Marvel Rivals follows the footsteps of Overwatch with its Spring Festival event

Marvel Rivals is kicking off its major Spring Festival event this Thursday! Get ready for a free Star-Lord costume and a brand-new game mode: Clash of Dancing Lions.

This 3-on-3 mode challenges teams to score a ball in their opponent's goal. While the gameplay might remind some of Rocket League, it bears a closer resemblance to Overwatch's Lucioball – a similar mode that also drew inspiration from Rocket League.

This comparison is particularly interesting given Marvel Rivals' current trajectory. The game has seemingly outgrown its Overwatch comparisons and needs unique content to establish its own identity. The choice to launch its first major event with a mode so reminiscent of Overwatch's inaugural event is a noteworthy observation. The key difference lies in the thematic setting: while Overwatch's mode had an Olympic theme, Marvel Rivals' event embraces a vibrant Chinese New Year atmosphere.

The wait is short! The Spring Festival event begins very soon.
