Hot on the heels of announcing an impressive lineup of 26 cast members for the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel Studios and Robert Downey Jr. have hinted that the casting announcements are far from over. The excitement around this superhero blockbuster continues to build as Marvel shared the initial cast list during a comprehensive livestream, confirming the start of production and revealing the actors set to join Robert Downey Jr. in this epic cinematic adventure.
Among the standout announcements, fans were thrilled to learn that Channing Tatum will be reprising his role as the beloved X-Men character, Gambit. For a complete look at who's joining the fray, you can check out the full Avengers: Doomsday cast list here.
However, eagle-eyed fans noticed some significant absences from the announced cast. Notably, Tom Holland's Spider-Man is missing, as is Chris Evans, despite earlier reports suggesting his return in either Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars. Evans later refuted those reports. Additionally, key characters like Hulk, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, and Rhodey are not on the list. On the X-Men front, there's no sign of Deadpool, Wolverine, Storm, or Jean Grey.
The omission of these fan-favorite characters led to a wave of disappointment among the superhero community. Yet, hope remains, as Robert Downey Jr., who transitions from Iron Man to the role of Doctor Doom, teased in an Instagram post that there's more to come. "That’s what u call a deep bench of talent," he wrote. "Actually it’s more like a row, but an extra long one… That must be it.. right?"

It's evident that Marvel isn't done with the Avengers: Doomsday cast announcements. The burning question on everyone's mind is: which other iconic characters will join the battle? Share your thoughts and predictions in the comments below.
Earlier this month, the Russo Brothers expressed their vision for Avengers 5 and 6 as a "new beginning" that sets the stage for the future of the MCU in Phase 7. Joe Russo emphasized their approach to villains, noting, "The only thing I’ll say about the movie is this: we love villains who think they’re the heroes of their own stories. That’s when they become three-dimensional and they become more interesting. When you have an actor like Robert Downey, you have to create a three-dimensional, well-shaped character for the audience. That’s where a lot of our focus is going."
Avengers: Doomsday is slated to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, with Secret Wars following in May 2027. Leading up to these major releases, fans can look forward to Thunderbolts* in May 2025, the TV series Ironheart in June, and the kickoff of Phase 6 with The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July.
In a further expansion of the MCU, Marvel Studios has added three untitled movie projects to its 2028 release schedule: February 18, 2028; May 5, 2028; and November 10, 2028. Speculation is rife that one of these could be the long-awaited X-Men film, adding yet another layer of excitement for fans.
