Mission: Impossible returns, reportedly for the final installment. Considering Tom Cruise has expressed his intention to keep making films well into his hundreds and the Oscars introduced a stunt category the year after this film's eligibility (lol), it would be more surprising if The Final Reckoning actually marked the true end of the franchise.
Nevertheless, even a potential conclusion warrants a proper send-off, especially for one of cinema's greatest action series, led by a star with a (well-documented and justified) passion for the big-screen experience.
Picking up after the events of 2023’s Dead Reckoning, IGN’s review notes that Cruise's Ethan Hunt once again puts "life, limb, and the fate of millions on the line, this time in a race to stop The Entity." Prepare for an array of spectacular stunts, primarily performed by Cruise himself, alongside numerous callbacks to earlier franchise entries.

Available Formats (and Which Is Worth It)
In addition to standard digital projection, Mission: Impossible will dominate the major Premium Large Format (PLF) screens at most theater chains. Remember that not every location offers all format types, so start by checking what’s available near you. Here’s what I recommend looking for:
IMAX
Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning will have a three-week exclusive run in IMAX, following Thunderbolts*. IMAX isn't just a larger screen; it's generally considered the pinnacle of theatrical presentation, featuring 4K laser projection and a six-channel surround sound system.
The film was specifically shot with IMAX in mind, using IMAX-certified digital cameras (a combination of Arri Alexa Mini LF, Sony CineAlta Venice, and Sony CineAlta Venice Rialto). According to IMAX, the movie includes "over 45 minutes of IMAX's exclusive 1.90:1 Expanded Aspect Ratio." If IMAX is an option in your area, it should be your top priority.

This is the fun option. Expect strobe lighting, weather effects, and motion-synchronized seats. 4DX provides an immersive experience that extends beyond the film itself, perfect for viewers seeking a memorable outing who don't mind occasional sensory distractions.

The Final Reckoning will eventually join the rest of the Mission: Impossible series on Paramount+. Recent Paramount releases like Novocaine and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 appeared on the streaming service approximately two months after their theatrical debut. Following a similar pattern, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning will likely be available to stream on Paramount+ by late July.
