Netflix is reportedly developing a live-action series based on Dungeons & Dragons, as revealed by recent insider reports.
According to Deadline, The Forgotten Realms adaptation is being spearheaded by Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy, with WeCrashed's Drew Crevello serving as writer-showrunner alongside Hasbro.
The Forgotten Realms serves as the primary fantasy universe for Dungeons & Dragons, featured prominently in both the Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves film and Larian Studios' acclaimed Baldur's Gate 3 video game.
Deadline describes this potential D&D series as "one of Netflix's most ambitious fantasy projects to date." While Crevello has reportedly penned the pilot episode and taken the showrunner role, neither Netflix nor Hasbro has officially commented.
"Following extensive negotiations typical for high-profile intellectual properties, sources indicate the fantasy series has secured its spot at the streaming platform for further development," reported Deadline's Nellie Andreeva. "If successful, this could potentially launch an entire D&D cinematic universe."
While the live-action D&D series appears promising, news about a sequel to the fan-favorite Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves remains scarce, despite its critical acclaim and underwhelming box office performance for Paramount Pictures.
In November 2023, Chris Pine, star of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, expressed enthusiasm about returning for a sequel, stating he felt "reasonably confident" about its prospects, though no updates have surfaced since.
Paramount CEO Brian Robbins has conditionally expressed openness to another D&D film, emphasizing: "We need to develop a more budget-conscious approach for any potential sequel."
As fans await developments, Amazon's Secret Level anthology series recently featured an animated D&D segment.
