Team Ninja has rolled out a substantial update for *Ninja Gaiden 2 Black*, bringing the game up to version 1.0.7.0 and introducing highly anticipated features such as New Game Plus, Photo Mode, and more. This patch was initially promised in response to player feedback gathered earlier this year and is now live across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms via Steam and the Microsoft Store.
As outlined in an official blog post from Team Ninja, this update delivers several gameplay enhancements and quality-of-life improvements that fans have been requesting. The most notable addition is the implementation of New Game Plus, which allows players to restart the game on any difficulty they’ve previously completed while retaining access to all weapons and Ninpo techniques collected during prior playthroughs. However, these retained items will reset to Level 1, and progression must follow the standard difficulty path—no skipping ahead.
Another welcome tweak comes in the form of a new toggle under Game Settings called "Show Projectile Weapon." This option lets players hide their equipped projectile weapon when it's attached to the back, offering a cleaner visual experience during gameplay.
Balance Adjustments
To improve pacing and combat dynamics, Team Ninja has made targeted balance changes throughout key chapters:
- Enemy HP has been reduced in Chapter 8 ("City of the Fallen Goddess") and Chapter 11 ("Night in the City of Water").
- The number of enemies has increased in both Chapter 13 ("The Temple of Sacrifice") and Chapter 14 ("A Tempered Gravestone").
- Ayane’s offensive capabilities have received a slight boost, with increased damage output on select attacks.
Bug Fixes and Performance Enhancements
This patch also addresses various technical issues reported by players, particularly those affecting performance on high-end PCs. Among the fixes implemented:
- Resolved control inconsistencies occurring at frame rates above 120 FPS or under heavy system load.
- Fixed vibration issues with controllers related to performance settings.
- Closed exploits that caused players to become stuck outside map boundaries in specific chapters.
- Corrected progression-blocking bugs in certain stages.
- Stabilized long-play sessions to prevent unexpected crashes.
- Included additional minor bug fixes to enhance overall stability and user experience.
New Features Overview
In addition to gameplay improvements, the patch introduces two major content additions:
- Photo Mode: Now accessible through the Options menu, this mode allows players to capture screenshots with adjustable camera angles within predefined limits.
- New Game+: Start a fresh adventure on cleared difficulties while keeping your unlocked tools from previous runs (all reset to Level 1).
About Ninja Gaiden 2 Black
*Ninja Gaiden 2 Black* launched as a surprise title during January’s Xbox Developer Direct. It reimagines the classic action-adventure experience using Unreal Engine 5, delivering enhanced visuals, new playable characters, and improved combat systems. While not a full remake, this updated iteration refines the original *Sigma 2* release into a sharper, more polished package.
IGN awarded the game an 8/10, stating: “Fewer enemies with more health may mean *Ninja Gaiden 2 Black* isn't quite the definitive version, but it's a definite and gorgeous improvement over its Sigma 2 release, and still an excellent action game all around.”
