Nintendo Switch 2 owners are experiencing an automatic deactivation of their controllers' vibration feature when the console detects extended use of the rumble function.
Since the Switch 2 launched earlier this month, users have reported receiving alerts about excessive rumble usage. A notification from Nintendo appears on-screen stating, "Rumble has been turned off due to prolonged use," temporarily disabling the Joy-Con's vibration capability.
"I initially received this message after roughly an hour and a half of handheld gameplay," shared one user on Reddit. "Now it appears within the first 20 minutes. Is anyone else encountering this problem?"
Switch 2 users mention encountering Joy-Con rumble issues across various games, including intense vibration sequences in Cyberpunk 2077—where firing the minigun is notably forceful—and during cutscenes in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker on Nintendo GameCube.
A Reddit discussion tracking the problem includes other affected titles. "It happened during the final boss fight in Sonic Generations," expressed one disappointed player. "I've seen it multiple times while playing Fast Fusion," added another.
Nintendo has not yet commented on the warning, though the community suspects it's a feature intended to conserve the Joy-Con's battery life. Vibration consumes additional power, and while completely disabling the function may seem extreme, it helps prevent the controllers from draining too rapidly.

"I keep getting this message as well, even after just a few minutes of play," commented a concerned fan in another Reddit thread. "I'm concerned my Joy-Con might be faulty."
Currently, those affected by repeated warnings say that completely turning off controller rumble in the Switch's settings is the only way to stop the pop-up from reappearing. Others note that the warning was temporary for them, with vibration returning after a short time.
IGN has reached out to Nintendo for further details.
