Nintendo has officially announced the upgrade costs for two more games from the original Nintendo Switch to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, specifically Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. However, these upgrades come at a higher price point than expected.
For context, the upgrade from the original Switch versions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to their Switch 2 Editions is priced at $9.99 each. In contrast, NintendoLife reported that the upgrades for both Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are significantly more expensive, costing over twice as much per game.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild offers improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integration with the new "Zelda Notes" service in the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original version need to purchase an "upgrade pack" for $10 to access these enhancements.
Moving on to the new content, the Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land includes a new story segment called Star-Crossed World. Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree's Switch 2 Edition introduces Jamboree TV, utilizing the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and the separately sold Switch 2 USB-C camera. Both editions also boast enhanced resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and expanded online functionalities.
While U.S. prices are not yet listed on the American Nintendo eShop—potentially due to fluctuations related to President Trump's tariffs—the UK Nintendo eShop has the Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgrade pack priced at £16.99 / €19.99, more than double the £7.99 / €9.99 cost to upgrade Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. The same pricing applies to the Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV upgrade, suggesting a U.S. price of $19.99 per game.
This higher upgrade fee could be attributed to the elevated base price of the full Switch 2 Editions of both games, which are listed at $79.99 each, compared to their original Switch versions at $59.99.
For those not upgrading, here's a breakdown of the U.S. costs for the full Nintendo Switch 2 Editions:
- Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
- Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99
It's worth noting that subscribers to Nintendo Switch Online and the Expansion Pack can upgrade Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom at no additional cost. Unfortunately, no such offer is currently available for Kirby or Super Mario Party Jamboree.
Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 opened on April 24, with the console priced at $449.99. Demand has been exceptionally high, leading Nintendo to warn U.S. customers that pre-order delivery on release day is not guaranteed.
