Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has announced the cancellation of the game's physical release for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Europe. The reason cited is technical difficulties related to multilingual European localization.
Cancellation of Omori's Physical Release
The publisher's Twitter (X) announcement provided limited details beyond the technical challenges encountered during localization. While the publisher declined to elaborate on the specific issues, the cancellation follows a series of delays.
Initially slated for a March 2023 release, the European physical edition was postponed to December 2023, then March 2024, and finally to January 2025. Pre-orders placed through retailers like Amazon were subsequently canceled. This string of setbacks ultimately led to the cancellation.
This news is a significant disappointment for many fans, particularly those anticipating the game's official release in Spanish and other European languages. While a digital version remains available, European players wishing to own a physical copy will need to import a US version.
Omori, an RPG centered around Sunny, a young boy grappling with the aftermath of a traumatic event, seamlessly blends reality and his dream world where he embodies the persona of Omori. Following its initial PC release in December 2020, the game expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox version was subsequently removed due to an unrelated incident involving an inappropriate T-shirt design sold by OMOCAT in 2013.
