Onimusha: Way of the Sword: new details and release date

Capcom unveils new details for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for a 2026 release. Prepare for visceral combat set against the backdrop of iconic Kyoto locations. This iteration boasts a revamped combat system and a fresh, compelling protagonist.

The core gameplay revolves around the visceral thrill of swordplay. Developers aim for unparalleled realism, incorporating novel Genma foes and allowing players to wield both blades and the formidable Omni Gauntlet. The emphasis is on the satisfying brutality of combat, with a soul absorption mechanic enabling health regeneration and special ability activation. While some trailers might omit graphic content, Capcom confirms dismemberment and blood effects will be fully featured in the final game.

Onimusha's distinctive style is enhanced with dark fantasy elements, powered by Capcom's cutting-edge technology for an optimized gaming experience.

Expect a captivating cast of characters, including a new hero, and enemies that are both visually striking and strategically challenging. Key features include:

  • Edo Period Setting: The game is set in Kyoto during the Edo period (1603-1868), a city rich in historical landmarks and shrouded in intriguing folklore.
  • Oni Gauntlet Power: The protagonist, empowered by faith, wields the Oni Gauntlet, battling monstrous entities and absorbing their souls to heal and unleash special attacks.
  • Historical Encounters: Expect encounters with real historical figures.
  • Intense Real-Time Combat: Experience the satisfying destruction of enemies in intense, real-time sword battles.
