DC Studios boss James Gunn has exciting news for fans, confirming that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21. In a recent tweet, Gunn shared his enthusiasm, describing the Season 2 premiere as "one of my favorite things ever." Accompanying the announcement was a brief clip of new footage featuring John Cena in action, complete with a smirk directed at the camera amidst a backdrop of raging fire. In the clip, Peacemaker is referred to as "a superhero now."

The release of Peacemaker Season 2 follows closely on the heels of the Superman movie, set to hit theaters on July 11. This film marks the official launch of Gunn's rebooted DC Universe (DCU), with Peacemaker Season 2 being the third entry in this new cinematic universe, following the Creature Commandos TV series from last year and the upcoming Superman film.
Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are steering the DCU away from the previously criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, certain elements from the DCEU will carry over into the new DCU. Peacemaker serves as a prime example of this transition, having debuted in the DCEU with its first season and now continuing in the new DCU with its second.
Gunn has previously stated that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though specifics on what will transition from the DCEU to the DCU remain undisclosed. He has confirmed that all members of Team Peacemaker will return, with the same actors reprising their roles. This includes **John Cena** as Peacemaker, **Frank Grillo** as Rick Flag Sr., **Freddie Stroma** as Adrian Chase, and **Danielle Brooks** as Leota Adebayo.Additionally, Gunn has noted that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set after the events of both Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting Peacemaker's storyline.
