Sony has officially announced the termination of its PlayStation Stars loyalty program, just under three years since its inception. As of today, the program is closed to new members, and current members who choose to cancel their membership will find their reward points permanently deleted, with no option to rejoin.
For those who remain enrolled, the opportunity to earn points will continue until July 23, 2025. Following this date, members will have until November 3, 2026, to redeem any remaining points.
Despite the program's end, Sony has confirmed that PlayStation Stars' Digital Collectibles will remain viewable for the foreseeable future, allowing users to continue enjoying their digital items, such as the 3D model of a Jim Ryan bobblehead.
Grace Chen, PlayStation's vice president of network advertising, loyalty, and licensed merchandise, explained the decision in a statement on the PlayStation blog. "Since launching the program, we've learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to, and as a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends," she said. "Through this evaluation, we have decided to refocus our efforts and will be winding down the current version of PlayStation Stars. We will continue to evaluate our key findings from this program, and are looking into ways to build upon these learnings."
No details were provided about a potential replacement for PlayStation Stars, nor were specific insights from the program's operation disclosed.

Launched in July 2022, PlayStation Stars aimed to reward PS5 owners by offering points with real cash value based on purchases made in the PlayStation Store and by completing various tasks, such as surveys or trying out new games and system features. The program was designed to compete with Microsoft's Xbox Rewards, although both loyalty schemes have seen adjustments over time, reducing their profitability.
PlayStation Stars faced a service outage lasting a month last summer, and in October, Sony introduced several changes, including reducing the points expiration period from 24 months to 12 months and excluding PlayStation Plus membership from points-eligible purchases. Now, the program is set to be phased out entirely.
