A Pokémon enthusiast has envisioned a Mega Evolution for the Normal/Flying-type Toucannon and showcased their creation online. The Pokémon franchise currently boasts 48 Mega Evolutions; 30 debuted in Pokémon X and Y (Generation VI), with the remainder introduced in the 2014 remakes of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire for Nintendo 3DS systems.
Mega Evolutions are temporary transformations altering a Pokémon's appearance, boosting stats, and granting new abilities. Notable Pokémon capable of Mega Evolution include Lucario, Mewtwo (with two Mega forms each), and Charizard. Given the series' extensive roster of over 1,000 Pokémon, fan-made Mega Evolutions are unsurprising for Pokémon lacking official transformations.
On the Pokémon subreddit, user Just-Drawing-Mons unveiled their Mega Toucannon concept. This Alolan regional bird, the evolved form of Pikipek and Trumbeak, receives a redesigned appearance in this Mega form, most notably a modified, scope-like beak. While many Mega Evolutions also adjust a Pokémon's stats, Just-Drawing-Mons didn't specify any stat changes for their Mega Toucannon.
Fan-Created Mega Evolutions
Just-Drawing-Mons has also designed a Mega Evolution for Skarmory, a Steel/Flying-type from Generation II. Beyond Mega Evolutions, this Reddit user has also created compelling redesigns of existing Pokémon. One example is their Fighting-type version of Alakazam, often considered the best Psychic-type among the original 151 Pokémon.
Mega Evolutions, featured in spin-offs like Pokémon GO, Pokémon Masters EX, and Pokémon Unite, are slated for a return in the core series with Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Set in Lumiose City within the Kalos region (Generation VI), Pokémon Legends: Z-A is anticipated for a 2025 Switch release.
Several Pokémon are highly sought after for Mega Evolutions in future installments, including Dragonite (a powerful first-generation non-Legendary Pokémon), the Generation VI starters (Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie), and Flygon. Interestingly, Flygon was initially intended for a Mega Evolution in Pokémon X and Y, but Ken Sugimori, the franchise's lead character designer, confirmed the design was ultimately unfinished.
