The Pokémon Company has officially stated that Pokémon TCG Pocket will not be joining its competitive circuit in the near future. This announcement sheds light on the game's trajectory and the potential reasons behind this decision. Dive deeper into what this means for Pokémon TCG Pocket and explore the speculated reasons for its exclusion from the competitive scene.
Pokémon TCG Pocket Won’t Be In The Competitive Scene Just Yet
No Plans For Competitive Pocket
Chris Brown, The Pokémon Company’s Director of eSports, shared in an interview with VGC on February 25, 2025, that there are currently no plans to integrate Pokémon TCG Pocket into the competitive circuit. While the company is continuously exploring new titles for inclusion, Pokémon TCG Pocket is not on the immediate horizon. In a light-hearted moment, Brown mentioned other ventures like the parody "Pokemon Sleep Champion Tournament," but he was clear: "But at this time there are no plans for Pokemon Pocket to join, but we’re always looking at things."
Too Early And Unbalanced
Although no official reasons have been given for excluding Pokémon TCG Pocket from the competitive scene, fans have their theories. Being only four months old since its October 2024 launch and with just two sets released, the game is still in its infancy. While it does feature competitive elements within the app, the community has voiced concerns about ongoing balance issues. Pokémon TCG Pocket is designed as a more accessible and simplified version of the traditional card game, prioritizing a beginner-friendly experience over a competitive one.
The Pokémon Competitive Circuit, however, remains vibrant with events featuring Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite. These games will be showcased at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in August 2025, held in Anaheim, California.
