Across the vast expanse of Eora, navigating the treacherous Living Lands becomes an exhilarating adventure with the right companions by your side. In Avowed, you're not alone on this journey, as you can recruit up to four unique Companions, each bringing their distinct personality and a suite of upgradable abilities to enhance your gameplay. Here's a detailed look at every Companion you can enlist in Avowed.
Kai
Kai is your first true ally in Avowed, joining your party early in the game at the port of Dawnshore near Paradis. You'll meet him right on the dock, where he'll propose teaming up to locate the Ambassador and the Cleric. Kai remains a steadfast member of your party until you recruit three Companions, at which point you can swap him out at a Party Camp.
In Avowed, Kai is a formidable ex-mercenary with a heart of gold. His combat style is that of a tank, capable of both absorbing and dishing out significant damage. Additionally, Kai's fire abilities are invaluable for clearing obstacles like cobwebs and roots, revealing hidden paths and treasures.
Kai's upgradable abilities include:
- Fire and Ire, Active: Kai unleashes a powerful shot from his blunderbuss, stunning and taunting a single enemy for 10 seconds.
- Unbending Defense, Active: Kai regenerates health and boosts his damage reduction by 25%.
- Leap of Daring, Active: Kai executes a mighty leap, stunning and taunting all nearby enemies upon landing.
- Second Win, Passive: Upon reaching zero health, Kai revives himself, restoring 50% of his maximum health.
Marius
Marius, the second Companion you'll encounter, has a shared history with Kai and can be found in Dawnshore. You'll meet him in a bar, where you can either negotiate his way out of a confrontation or assist him in combat against some aggressive NPCs.
As an expert hunter and tracker, Marius brings his skills to the forefront in both narrative and gameplay. His Hunter Sense ability aids in locating loot and crafting materials across the Living Lands. In combat, Marius utilizes a bow and arrow, daggers, and can even manipulate nature to ensnare enemies with Roots.
Marius's upgradable abilities are:
- Binding Roots, Active: Marius roots an enemy in place for 8 seconds.
- Heart Seeker, Active: Marius fires a piercing shot that unerringly hits its target, passing through any obstacles.
- Shadow Step, Active: Marius disappears into a cloud of smoke, reappearing to slash an enemy with his daggers up to three times.
- Wounding Shots, Passive: Marius's attacks cause enemies to bleed.
Giatta
Giatta, the third Companion, joins your party later in the main quest within the Emerald Stair Region at the Fior settlement. As an animancer, she practices a controversial form of magic in the Living Lands.
Giatta's animancy plays a crucial role in uncovering the spiritual mysteries of Avowed's main quest. In combat, she serves as a support, focusing on healing, shielding, and buffing allies rather than dealing direct damage. Her unique ability, Spectral Jolt, powers Essence Generators, unlocking hidden pathways and treasures during exploration.
Giatta's upgradable abilities include:
- Purification, Active: Giatta emits a wave of energy, healing all allies by 25% of their maximum health.
- Barrier, Active: Giatta grants all allies a shield, providing temporary health for 20 seconds.
- Acceleration, Active: Giatta boosts the movement and attack speed of all allies for 15 seconds.
- Reconstruction, Passive: Giatta's attacks heal all allies slightly.
Yatzli
Yatzli, the fourth and final Companion, joins your party during a main quest in the Shatterscarp region within the city of Thirdborn, though you may encounter her earlier in the world.
Like Giatta, Yatzli wields magic, but her focus is on dealing damage. Her spells are potent, capable of targeting single enemies or controlling crowds effectively. Yatzli's magic also aids in clearing obstacles, making her an essential ally for exploring the Living Lands.
Yatzli's upgradable abilities are:
- Essence Explosion, Active: Yatzli unleashes an arcane explosion upon contact with an enemy, releasing a burst of Essence and explosive damage.
- Minoletta’s Missile Battery, Active: Yatzli launches a volley of arcane missiles that seek out nearby enemies.
- Arduos Delay of Motion, Active: Yatzli manipulates arcane energy to slow an enemy for 10 seconds.
- Blast, Passive: Yatzli's attacks create a small area of effect upon hitting an enemy.
And that concludes the list of every recruitable Companion in Avowed. Each brings unique skills and abilities to your journey through the Living Lands, making your adventure both thrilling and rewarding.
