Rumors are swirling about a Nintendo Switch 2 port of the critically acclaimed Red Dead Redemption 2, with whispers suggesting a release could happen by the end of 2025. Additionally, there's talk of a next-gen upgrade for the game on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. According to GameReactor, sources "close to Rockstar" have hinted at a Switch 2 version of this Wild West adventure, alongside a "next-gen upgrade patch" that aims to enhance the experience on current-gen consoles. While details remain sparse, the sources suggest that both the port and the upgrade could be available as soon as later this year.
These rumors are supported by reports from Nintenduo, which indicate that the Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is expected to launch within Take-Two's current fiscal year, ending March 31, 2026. It's still up in the air whether this port will be digital-only or also available in physical form.
When Red Dead Redemption 2 debuted in 2018, we at IGN hailed it as a "masterpiece," giving it a perfect 10/10 score. Our review praised it as "a meticulously polished open-world ode to the outlaw era." Given this high acclaim, it's no surprise that fans are eagerly anticipating its potential arrival on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Adding fuel to the speculation, Take-Two's CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed "great optimism" about Nintendo's new platform during a recent Q&A with investors. He highlighted that Take-Two plans to launch four titles on the Switch 2, a more significant commitment than with previous Nintendo platforms. Zelnick noted that Nintendo has been more supportive of third-party publishers this time around, which has encouraged Take-Two to step up their game. "We're launching four titles with Nintendo Switch 2, and that's I think a bigger array of releases than we've ever offered before with a new Nintendo platform," he stated. While he mentioned specific upcoming releases like Civilization 7, the NBA 2K and WWE 2K series, and Borderlands 4, his comments leave room for hope that other titles from their back catalog, such as Red Dead Redemption 2, could also make their way to the Switch 2.
