Capcom’s upcoming, yet-to-be-announced Resident Evil Zero remake is reportedly targeting a 2028 release and will feature the lead actor from Square Enix’s Guardians of the Galaxy video game.
Last year, IGN confirmed a report from well-known Resident Evil leaker Dusk Golem, which stated Capcom plans to continue remaking its classic Resident Evil titles with new versions of both Resident Evil Code: Veronica and Resident Evil Zero in development.
Now, MP1st has indicated that the Code: Veronica remake is aiming for a Q1 2027 release, while Resident Evil Zero would follow roughly a year later. There’s also mention of the Zero remake’s alleged codename — “Project Chamber” — which appears on the resume of Far Cry 5 and Guardians of the Galaxy video game actor Jon McLaren.
McLaren’s resume describes Project Chamber as an “upcoming AAA video game” for which he is providing performance capture work at Beyond Capture Studios. The codename would be a clear reference to Resident Evil Zero’s Rebecca Chambers, while MP1st notes that Beyond Capture Studios has previously been used by Capcom for both the Resident Evil 4 Remake and Street Fighter 6.
Resident Evil Zero originally launched in 2002 on the GameCube as a prequel to the series’ classic first installment. It follows the events surrounding S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team in the Arklay Mountains, allowing players to switch between rookie medic Rebecca Chambers and escaped convict Billy Coen. (McLaren is presumably playing the latter.)
This new remake is expected to expand upon the original story with additional scenes — similar to how Capcom has enriched its previous Resident Evil remakes. For Zero, reports suggest this will include a more prominent role for the conductor during the game’s infamous train sequence.
Fans likely still have a considerable wait before seeing anything official from Capcom’s new Resident Evil Zero remake, though today’s latest report offers a few more clues about what to expect — and when.
In the meantime, Capcom is focused on preparing for next year’s launch of Resident Evil Requiem, scheduled for February 27, 2026, coinciding with the franchise’s 30th anniversary. The game is positioned as a finale for several of the series’ long-running storylines, including the fate of the Umbrella Corporation and Raccoon City. But will Leon S. Kennedy make a return?
