Russell Crowe, Henry Cavill Reunite for Highlander

Russell Crowe is set to reunite with his Man of Steel co-star Henry Cavill for the upcoming Highlander remake.

Initial reports from Collider indicate that the 61-year-old Gladiator star has joined the cast in a pivotal role for John Wick creator Chad Stahelski's fresh take on the classic. He will portray Cavill's mentor, a modern reinterpretation of the character originally played by Sean Connery in the 1986 film (via Deadline).

Details regarding how the Highlander remake will modernize the storyline, along with further casting announcements, are currently being kept under wraps. However, Stahelski previously shared with Collider: "We're advancing the timeline from the early 1500s Scottish Highlands to present-day New York and Hong Kong and beyond. This opens up tremendous opportunities for action sequences... and there's an element of romance—though perhaps not in the way you might expect."

Cavill's starring role in the new Highlander film was announced back in 2021. Crowe's involvement marks a reunion for the two Man of Steel actors, who previously shared the screen in the 2013 Superman film. Crowe portrayed Jor-El, Superman's Kryptonian father and guide, and the new Highlander project will see him return to a similar mentor dynamic when it finally arrives in theaters.

Highlander is scheduled for a theatrical release, though an official date has not yet been set. The project is being produced by Amazon MGM and United Artists, with a screenplay penned by John Wick: Chapter 4 and American Assassin writer Michael Finch.
