Sequel Revealed: Splitgate, "Halo-Inspired Portal-Shooter" Sparks Anticipation

1047 Games, the creators of the popular Splitgate, has announced a sequel to their 2019 multiplayer first-person shooter. Get ready for the Sol Splitgate League!

Splitgate 2: A 2025 Launch

A Familiar Feeling, Reimagined

CEO Ian Proulx stated their goal is to create a game with lasting appeal, aiming for a lifespan of a decade or more. While inspired by classic arena shooters, the developers recognized the need for a deeper, more rewarding gameplay loop to achieve longevity in today's market.

Hilary Goldstein, Head of Marketing, highlighted a re-evaluation of the portal mechanics. The aim is to cater to skilled players while ensuring accessibility for all.

While specific gameplay details remain under wraps, Splitgate 2 will utilize Unreal Engine 5 and incorporate a faction system. Expect a fresh and modernized feel, distinct from the original.

The game is slated for a 2025 release on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.

Known for its unique blend of Halo and Portal gameplay, Splitgate features portal-based movement mechanics within arena-style PvP combat.

The original game's popularity exploded after a successful demo, garnering 600,000 downloads in a single month. This led to server capacity upgrades to handle the massive player base.

Following an extended early access period, Splitgate officially launched on September 15, 2022. Development ceased on the original to focus on creating a superior sequel, promising revolutionary changes.

New Factions, Maps, and Characters

The trailer showcased the Sol Splitgate League and introduced three distinct factions, adding strategic depth.

According to the Steam page, each faction offers unique playstyles: Aeros (dashing mobility), Meridian (tactical time manipulation), and Sabrask (brute force).

It's confirmed that Splitgate 2 will not be a hero shooter in the style of Overwatch or Valorant.

Gameplay details will be revealed at Gamescom 2024 (August 21-25). However, the trailer provides a strong indication of what to expect, showcasing new maps, weapons, and the return of dual-wielding.
