Silent Hill f made its debut tonight during Gamescom Opening Night Live with a fresh trailer, introducing us to the voice of the protagonist, Hinako, as portrayed by English actor Suzie Yeung.
The trailer begins as Hinako awakens, disoriented, in a shadowy chamber. She wanders what appears to be a shrine, eventually following a mysterious figure holding a blue lamp deeper into the structure. She is then assailed by the grotesque dolls seen in previous footage, with glimpses of several other disturbing rooms within the shrine.
The scene then shifts to a rainy day at a decrepit house, which Hinako seems to recognize as her own home. We see her with torn, blood-stained clothing as a chilling woman's voice commands her to kill everyone, leading to a confrontation with one of her classmates. While less graphic than the previous trailer, the atmosphere remains deeply unsettling.
Set in 1960s Japan, Silent Hill f features an original story by Ryukishi07, designed to juxtapose beauty with horror. First unveiled in 2022, it is a standalone entry in the series and marks the first Japan-developed Silent Hill to receive an M-rating, accompanied by stark content warnings. Recent insights also suggest a focus on combat, with series producer Motoi Okamoto noting, "Challenging action games are popular with younger players today, so we believed incorporating such elements would resonate well, even for newcomers to the series."
Silent Hill f launches soon, on September 25 this year, for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. We spent five hours with the game earlier this month; you can read our full preview here.
