Stellar Blade, the eagerly anticipated title from developer SHIFT UP, is gearing up for its PC release, and fans have been vocal about their concerns regarding the game's use of Denuvo (DRM) and potential region lock issues. Let's delve into how SHIFT UP is addressing these concerns to ensure a smooth and inclusive gaming experience for all players.
Stellar Blade PC Updates
SHIFT UP Addressed DRM Concerns
In a proactive move, SHIFT UP took to Twitter (X) on May 17 to address the community's worries about the inclusion of Denuvo in Stellar Blade. They clarified that "DRM has been hard tuned to maintain the same average frame rate, with even higher minimum frames in some cases." Denuvo, a form of Digital Rights Management (DRM), is designed to prevent unauthorized copying and distribution, but it has been criticized for potentially impacting game performance.
SHIFT UP shared detailed test results comparing the game's performance with and without DRM. Their findings indicated that the average framerate, minimum framerate, maximum framerate, 1% low framerate, and 0.1% low framerate remained virtually identical. This transparency was well-received by the community, though some fans expressed a preference for the complete removal of Denuvo to enhance the game's accessibility.
Adding to the positive news, SHIFT UP confirmed that Stellar Blade fully supports mods without any restrictions, a significant advantage over other DRM-protected games.
Region Lock Issues
Another pressing issue for the PC release of Stellar Blade is the potential for region lock due to its association with the PlayStation Network (PSN). Despite the game not requiring a PSN connection, over 130+ countries that are not supported by PSN may face access restrictions.
SHIFT UP is actively working to mitigate these concerns, stating they are "closely discussing the region lock issue with the publisher and are doing our BEST to resolve most of it as soon as possible." They've assured fans that both the PC and PS5 versions will offer identical content, ensuring that early buyers won't be disadvantaged by future updates.
While the community appreciates SHIFT UP's efforts to address these issues, there remains a desire for a DRM-free and unrestricted gaming experience. Stellar Blade's PC version is slated for release on June 11 on Steam. For the latest updates and more information on the game, be sure to check out our dedicated articles.
